The next addition to the Mini lineup, the Aceman, has finally been spotted actually driving by our spy photographers. A sign of things to come, the “Sport Activity Vehicle” is likely to slot into the lineup between the Hatch and the Countryman.

Despite the yellow dazzle camouflage, certain details can still be seen through the wrap. The oddly-shaped headlights, for instance, are quite similar to the Aceman Concept, which was revealed in July. Mini said, at the time, the concept was a vision for the future of Mini Design.

Previously spotted on a car carrier and driving around a parking lot, the new vehicle has now been snapped driving on public roads in Munich, Germany, signalling the start of its road testing regimen.

That’s exciting news for Mini, which is in the midst of a big electric push. Expected to sit on the same platform as the upcoming all-electric Mini Hatch, the EV-only platform will undoubtedly have to be stretched to match the Aceman’s larger proportions.

Set to measure in at just over four meters (13 feet) in length, if the concept is anything to go on, the Aceman’s all-electric platform will offer it more interior volume than a vehicle with an internal combustion engine.

Similar in size to the first-generation Mini Countryman, it should offer significantly more cabin space than that ICE vehicle. That means that it is likely to replace the Mini Clubman, which is reportedly on its way out, while the upcoming third-generation Countryman will grow significantly in size.

Details about power have yet to be revealed, but the all-electric platform is being developed in collaboration with BMW‘s Chinese partner, Great Wall. As with a number of other EVs, the Mini Aceman could get dual motors for AWD.

The Mini Aceman is expected to be revealed in 2024, and will, therefore, likely be sold as a model year 2025 vehicle. It will follow the all-electric Mini Hatch, which is set to debut in 2023.
