When Jeep announced their electrification plans in the fall, they introduced a handful of electric vehicles including an SUV code-named the Wagoneer S.

Now, the automaker is looking to give the model a ‘proper’ name and they’re enlisting the public’s help. While public naming contests have a tendency to go awry, such as the infamous Boaty McBoatface incident, Jeep is incentivizing meaningful entries by holding a contest that will reward the person who makes the winning submission with a $1,000 gift card and a four-person ski trip to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Fans can submit their suggestions at NameTheNewWagoneer.com and entries will be judged on a 100 point scale. Up to 50 points will be awarded for relevancy as Jeep wants a name that is “relevant/appealing to a significant portion of the consumer base and relevant to the vehicle itself.” The remaining points will be awarded for “how different and unique” the name is.

The contest ends on December 2nd and is only open to permanent legal residents of the United States, who are at least the legal age of majority in their state of residence. Jeep also noted entries must be an original creation, suitable for publication, and not obscene, profane, racist, sexual, explicit, lewd or violent.

Jeep CEO Christian Meunier remarked, we are “providing owners and enthusiasts an opportunity to submit a name for the first-ever electric Wagoneer. This premium and highly efficient SUV is loaded with technology, craftsmanship and performance, expanding our presence in the premium mid-sized SUV segment and it will become an essential player in our global EV product offensive.”

Jeep has said the electric Wagoneer will have 600 hp (447 kW / 608 PS) and be able to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in approximately 3.5 seconds. The company is also targeting a range of 400 miles (644 km) on a single charge.

The production model will be introduced soon as Jeep will begin accepting reservations in early 2023. Production will follow in 2024 and the model will be offered in “major markets around the world, including Europe.”
