This Gangster Ghibli Is A Ride Fit For A Sneaker King

The Ghibli sedan is fast becoming one of Maserati’s top-selling models. As of last year, it had sold some 20,000 of them in the US alone. And with so many of them out there, some are bound to be customized in the aftermarket. Like this one, showcased by Forgiato.

Called the “Gangster Ghibli,” it features a chameleon wrap that changes color depending on the light and angle from which it’s viewed. The wheels have been done up to match. Those Forgiato Flow 001 alloys look like they measure 22 inches in diameter, with ultra-low-profile Z-rated tires. Whatever the size and the rubber, they give the Italian sedan an even more impressive stance than when it left the factory.

The Modenese automaker revived the Ghibli badge for its third application in 2013. The name first belonged to the famously svelte coupe from the 1960s and ’70s, which was followed by a boxier one in the ’90s. Only this time it’s a sedan, slotting in underneath the larger Quattroporte. The two sedans sit alongside the Levante crossover and GranTurismo coupe and convertible in the Trident marque’s lineup.

Maserati offers the modern Ghibli with an array of turbocharged V6 engines. Burning either gasoline or diesel, they range in output from 271 horsepower all the way up to 404. The top Ghibli S Q4 will rocket to 62 mph (100 km/h) from a standstill in under five seconds.

The customized example pictured here was commissioned by the owner of Cool Kicks. The store deals in rare sneakers from locations in Los Angeles and Springfield, Virginia (just outside of Washington, DC). And it looks like just the ride to fit into the sneaker-freak culture.
