• Nissan tests a camouflaged Kicks showing Rock Creek styling cues on US roads.
  • Spy shots reveal roof racks, covered wheels, and subtle bumper changes up front.
  • The automaker already offers Rock Creek trims on Rogue and Pathfinder SUVs.

The Kicks is still a relatively fresh face in Nissan’s North American lineup, yet the company already seems keen to stretch its appeal. Fresh spy shots suggest a Rock Creek Edition is on the way, borrowing a familiar playbook from elsewhere in the range.

These images were recently snapped on the streets of the US and show a lightly camouflaged Nissan Kicks with manufacturer plates in Tennessee. The camouflage to the front fascia covers the bumper, grille, and air intakes, and suggests some alterations.

The rear of the Kicks is also camouflaged, covering the tailgate and bumper, extending to the roof, where a set of roof racks is visible. Nissan has also gone to the trouble of wrapping the wheels in camouflage, helping to hide a new design.

The emergence of these spy images comes just a few months after Nissan presented a special, off-road-equipped Kicks at the Montreal Auto Show, perhaps previewing some of the changes the Rock Creek model could add. Like this prototype, it had roof racks and tweaked bumpers to make it look a little rougher and more ready.

Following Its Bigger Siblings

Nissan offers Rock Creek versions of both the Rogue and Pathfinder SUVs, making them a little more rugged and better suited to those seeking a more adventurous-looking styling. In addition to the bodywork modifications, they include roof racks, new wheels, and off-road tires. Interestingly, the tires of this Kicks prototype appear to be normal road rubber, but others may be available as an option.

No powertrain modifications are to be expected. As such, the regular 2.0-liter four-cylinder of the Kicks will likely be retained, delivering the same 141 hp and 140 lb-ft (189 Nm) of torque while mated to a CVT.
