As great as the previous 100 years of BMW models have been, they may be nothing compared to what the Bavarian automaker has planned for the next 100 years.

BMW even went as far as to roll out a self-driving concept car in order to celebrate its 100th birthday, which is, of course, fitting seen as how autonomous driving will play a major part in the automotive industry as we move forward.

Mercedes, while acknowledging BMW’s 100th anniversary and thanking them for “100 years of competition”, couldn’t help themselves and threw in the fact that “the previous 30 years were actually a bit boring.”

So much for playing nice, right? On top of that, they chose to go with a signature BMW kidney grille in order to stay as subtle as possible about having another automaker’s presence on their social media account.

Without trying to pick any sides, we’re simply excited to see what the future holds for both of these automotive giants, as well as for their direct rivals – because if the past 100 years brought us so many new technologies, we can only imagine what they’ll accomplish within the next century.

Happy 100th birthday, BMW! Here’s to another 100 years of competition.
