There are lots of reasons to buy this particular Ford Sierra RS Cosworth, but what caught our attentions is that it was driven by Jeremy Clarkson in an epic road trip across Germany.

Top Gear fans might remember the 2.0-litre 201hp Sierra “Cossie” from the Series 15 “Cheap Car Challenge”, where the presenters were each given £5,000 ($7,059) to purchase the ultimate track day sports saloons. While May and Hammond acquired a Mercedes Benz 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth and a BMW M3 e36, Clarkson settled for this Ford Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth.

The car had more than 15 minutes of fame, especially when the vehicle was subjected to ADAC’s road-worthiness test and came off much better than the other two.

Assembled in Belgium, driven by Clarkson, featured on Top Gear, and equipped with Cosworth’s stunning YBB powerplant – conceived to homologate and power the Sierra Group A Touring Car – this Sapphire Cosworth is currently offered for sale with 82,000 miles (131,966 km) on the clock, and what appears to be the original stainless steel exhaust.

Originally, the vehicle’s performance figures allowed it to sprint from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in 6.1 seconds, achieving a 150 mph (241 km/h) top speed in the process. Yet, in Clarkson’s hands the car only managed to register 142 mph (228 km/h) on the Autobahn, but the feat was deemed adequate considering its age.

According to Classic Car Auctions – the same organization that handled the sale of the BMW M3 that appeared in the same challenge – the car comes with a box full of history, and has an estimated price tag between £13,000 – £16,000 ($18,355 – $22,577)
