Whether you’re a Tesla skeptic or a Tesla lover, one cannot ignore the affect the Silicon Valley-based automaker is having on the automotive industry.

Sure, it may not be making any money (yet…), but there’s no denying it has altered public perception of electric vehicles from boring and slow modes of transport to vehicles that can be efficient, fun and, soon, affordable. It’s little wonder then why so many established marques are jumping on the electric car bandwagon hoping to catch up to Tesla.

Beyond its pioneering electric powertrains and performance, Tesla has helped make over-the-air updates for vehicles a reality. What this means is that the company can transform how its models drive, how they feel and load them up with new features through a simple update like on your smartphone.

Just yesterday, Tesla rolled-out its 8.0 software update for the Model S and Model X and it promises to be the most significant update yet. It includes an improved Autopilot system, adjustments to the automated doors of the Model X, better voice recognition and a host of other features.
