Volkswagen has released the first teaser images with a new zero-emission study, which will pave the road for a production model.

The as-of-yet unnamed show car is part of Volkswagen’s new plan, which will put the cheating emissions scandal to rest by launching no less than 30 electric vehicles by 2025, and it will make its world debut during the 2016 Paris Motor Show, at the end of the month.

The vehicle is as revolutionary as the Beetle was seven decades ago, before it evolved into the world’s best-selling car of the last century. This car, too, has the potential to make history with its completely new vehicle concept. The production vehicle which follows will be the first Volkswagen to enter the market based on the new modular electrification kit (MEB)“, the automaker said in the short text that accompanies the pictures.

Expected to make transition from a show car to a production model around 2020, approximately one year after the Budd-e will hit the assembly lines, the vehicle is said to come in a hatchback body style, a tad smaller than the Golf, with a cabin similar in size to the Passat. Rivaling the likes of the BMW i3 and Chevrolet Bolt, it will have a zero-emission range between 400 and 600 km (249-371 miles).
