Household furnishing giant IKEA announced that it has teamed up with ECOtality to host Blink electric vehicle charging stations for EVs at select stores in the Western United States.

The company said that it is considering 10 locations in Arizona, California, Oregon and Washington with the program set to go in motion this fall.

IKEA will be responsible for the preparation of its stores for the installation, operation and reporting of information to ECOtality, while the latter will oversee installation and manage charging operations. Each store will have at least two Blink charging stations and the pilot program will last until December 2012.

“We are excited this partnership will make charging stations more accessible to the many people choosing to drive electric vehicles,” said Mike Ward, IKEA U.S. president.

“Hosting charging stations at IKEA locations known for regional draws furthers our commitment to a smaller carbon footprint and technological opportunities that help protect the environment. This project is part of a global effort to promote the sustainable transport of people.”
