Ever since the Spanish Grand Prix, FIA has investigated the matter of some teams using exhaust gasses when the driver is off the throttle to improve the downforce of their cars. Eventually, FIA ruled that throttle opening when the accelerator is released would be limited to 10%.

However, McLaren’s Martin Whitmarsh disputed on Friday before the British GP the new regulation, claiming that Red Bull’s Renault engine retains 50% of its power under a concession for reliability.

Naturally, Red Bull’s Christian Horner picked up the glove immediately. He revealed that the same concession was offered to McLaren, allowing four of the V8’s cylinder to be fired on over-run.

Whitmarsh hit back claiming that, under the current circumstances, Red Bull had an unfair advantage. Horner responded by saying that all teams are free to operate their engines like Renault does.

The two managing directors managed to agree on at least one thing, that is that the change in regulations by the FIA shouldn’t have been implemented mid-season, but after its finale.
