There’s good news and bad news for UK buyers enticed by the new Audi A1 Quattro hot hatchback.

Starting with the good news, the limited production model will be offered for sale in Britain with the company taking orders in March. And now for the bad news. For one, only 19 out of a total of 333 examples worldwide will be imported to the UK, all of which are left-hand-drive.

Then there’s the steep price that comes to £41,020 (equal to US$64,600 or €49,500), which makes it £1,000+ more expensive than 340PS (335bhp) RS3 Sportback.

We’ll remind you that the A1 quattro is powered by a turbocharged and directly injected 2.0-litre four-cylinder adopted from the TTS, delivering 256PS (253bhp) at 6,000 rpm and a punchy 350Nm (258 lb-ft) of peak torque between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm.

All that power is channeled through a quick-shifting six-speed manual transmission to the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.

Audi gives a 0 to 62mph (100km/h) sprint time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 152mph (245km/h), along with a combined fuel economy of 33.2mpg UK (equal to 8.5 lt/100km or 27.7 US mpg).

According to the German automaker, more than 600 components have been reworked or replaced during the creation of the limited run A1 quattro, which also features a retuned suspension and steering systems plus beefier brakes.
