If you are not content with the spy photos of Land Rover’s all-important, next generation Range Rover and would like to see the luxury SUV in action, then you’ll be pleased to know that Carscoop reader Jay M. has tipped us off about a video showing two prototype models on a highway in Dubai.
The YouTube poster notes: “I saw two 2013 Range Rover prototypes driving down the Dubai Bypass Road this morning on their way from the Al Tayer Motors facility in Dubai Investment Park out to the desert for hot weather testing.”
Land Rover’s new offering is the first model of the flagship Range Rover series to be developed under the ownership of India’s Tata Motors, which acquired the British brand along with Jaguar from Ford in 2008.
The 2013 Range Rover debuts the company’s new Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) that makes use of an aluminium monocoque platform, which together with the aluminium body panels and numerous other weight saving measures, promises to trim as much as 1,000 pounds (450kg) over the current model.
The British firm’s premium 4×4 will likely be offered with V6 and V8 diesels along with a V8 supercharged petrol and possibly, the Jaguar-Land Rover group’s new 3.0-liter supercharged V6 gasoline unit that makes up to 375hp in the upcoming F-Type.
A hybrid variant will be introduced about a year after the market launch of the regular Range Rover models in 2013.
