One of the official partners of the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team is BlackBerry, which explains why Nico Rosberg went to the trouble of taking a video selfie while driving the 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196 race car.

While the F1 driver takes the selfie on a closed course, some will no doubt raise their eyebrows as Rosberg is a Formula 1 star with a lot of young fans that look up to him and may think that taking selfies behind the wheel is a really cool thing to do. Well, it’s not. When done on public roads it’s plain stupid and dangerous.

However, in Rosberg’s case, it was a fun thing to do, if rather difficult – as the Mercedes driver had to keep only one hand on the steering wheel. That requires some muscle as 1950s racecars did not have assisted steering. This is why we see Rosberg putting down the phone ahead of tighter corners. Scroll down to watch the video.
