It seems we’re set to see 12 all-new Mercedes models make their debut by the year 2020, according to the brand’s R&D boss, Thomas Weber.

He recently spoke at the opening of the firm’s new design facility in Beijing and detailed the plan – that’s the venue where the G-Code concept was revealed; it’s pictured below and maybe a sign of things to come?

Apparently, by all new what he meant was without a predecessor. They’ll all be the product of “the most intensive development cycle” ever undertaken by Mercedes. Weber said “it is additional to our regular development activities for the replacement of existing models and will significantly strengthen our position within the market”.

There were also talks of future prospects for extensive electrification of its entire range. Some 10 new plug-in hybrids will be added to the lineup as well, though we don’t know if these include the 12 all-new models or a blend of all-new and already established.
