The new technologies that have crept into car interiors with the promise of making life easier are only now starting to mature (touchscreens and capacitive sensors along with voice control). Neither was very good when first introduced, so what should we expect from the inevitable onset of gesture control?

It probably won’t be very good at first, as we’ve come to expect from the industry, but it will bring a totally new way to interact with the car. No longer will you have to remember where buttons and knobs are, because you’ll always have them at your fingertips, if your fingertips are placed above or below a specific panel that tries to make sense of it.

CNET put out a short video hosted by its car tech specialist Brian Cooley. He says there’s a long way to go before gesture control becomes a thing, and highlights what we should look out for in such systems in the future.
