Despite the fact that taking video and shooting multiple photos then stitching them together sounds the same in principle, the way each has developed over the years means their result is very different.

If you want to make a video out of photos, the result will not necessarily be able to accurately convey the atmosphere, action and precise movements. However, it will be a far more artistic affair than any conventional video, as this one created by eGarage so clearly proves.

It’s the result of cobbling together a 4K quality video out of 20,000 photos shot at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca, in 2014. It is, as its authors call it a “still motion story.”

It’s all very high-quality looking, even if the motion itself is often jerky and nowhere near as fluid as what you’d see in a regular bit of video. However, it’s not about depicting realistic motion, but about making the viewer enjoy what he or she is seeing without having to concentrate on the action, and in that respect it’s spot on!
