Ferrari F12 Speciale Will Reportedly Have 30HP More, 200 Kg Less Than F12 Berlinetta

It’s no secret that Ferrari is preparing a lightweight, track-focused version of the F12 Berlinetta which will rival Lamborghini’s Aventador SV.

The Ferrari F12 Speciale, as it may be called, is believed to be in the final stages of development, with a likely debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show. Just like the 458 Speciale, the F12 Speciale is expected to be a full-scale production car rather than a limited-edition model.

The model will be built alongside the standard Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, which will continue production. Compared to the latter model, the F12 Speciale will reportedly be up to 200 kg (441 lbs) lighter, tipping the scales at approximately 1,430 kg (3,152 lbs). It will be more powerful as well, with the 6.2-liter V12 expected to deliver 760hp – 30hp more than the F12 Berlinetta.

Naturally, these changes will have an important impact on performance, with the F12 Speciale having a power-to-weight ratio of 531hp per tonne, significantly bigger than the Lamborghini Aventador SV’s 485hp per tonne. Furthermore, the F12 Speciale’s performance will be similar to that of the Porsche 918 Spyder hypercar.

0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is expected to take 3 seconds or less, while the standard F12’s 211 mph (340 km/h) top speed may be reduced due to increased drag produced by the extreme aerodynamics package which the car is expected to feature.

The F12 Speciale is also expected to receive a unique tune for its suspension and steering, as well as optimized safety and stability systems. Autocar estimates the hardcore sports car could cost around £300,000 ($465,550).
