Force India’s VJM08 Racer Grows Nostrils For Rest Of 2015 Season

So how do you take your Formula 1 cars, weird looking or simply generic? Last year was definitely a weird one in terms of nose design, especially for the likes of Force India.

This year however, they went with something a bit more modern, though heavily influenced by the new rules. The VJM08’s nose was long, clean and overall made for a good looking F1 car that both Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez could drive proudly.

Recently though, during post-Austrian Grand Prix tests, Force India introduced their full-fledged B-Spec car, that came not just with new parts, but also a pretty distinctive nose job.

Yes, we’ve got nostrils people! And from a visual stand point, they actually…don’t seem to look all that bad. In fact, they look kind of cool, as does the VJM08 in general – both visually and performance wise.

But since it’s performance we’re interested in the most when it comes to the new nose, let’s talk about what these two vents mean.

What they do is they channel air towards the lower section of the nose, in order to sort of recreate last year’s airflow. Yes, it seems that the finger-shaped nose from 2014 was pretty good from an aerodynamics point of view.

If you somehow manage to look underneath the car, you’ll find a spoon-shaped panel which also improves underbody airflow.
