For a brand that has only entered the Chinese market in 2007, achieving 1,500,000 sales is definitely a milestone. Skoda has delivered 1.5 million vehicles to customers in China in eight years, with the Asian country being its largest single market worldwide.

Obviously, the VW Group-owned Czech automaker doesn’t plan to stop here. Over the coming years, Skoda aims to increase sales to over 500,000 cars per year, up from 281,400 in 2014. In order to achieve that, the carmaker will introduce new models, including the latest-generation Fabia and Superb. While the new Fabia has been available in China from April, the flagship Superb will launch this autumn.

The Skoda Superb will be produced for the Chinese market at Shanghai Volkswagen’s (SVW) plant in Ningbo, southern China. Other Skoda models are built for the local market in Anting and Yizheng. Skoda’s current model lineup in China includes the Fabia, Rapid, Rapid Spaceback, Octavia, Yeti and Superb, all of which are built locally.

China made up almost one quarter of Skoda’s total sales last year. In the first half of 2015, the automaker delivered 138,300 vehicles in the Chinese market, accounting for an increase of 5.8 percent over the same period last year. China has been the automaker’s largest individual market since 2010.
