The new Mad Max: Savage Road open world action game is not perfect, but it’s classes above some other first time entries into the genre.

It’s been played for the last several weeks by the major game reviewing outlets and the consensus is that it’s very good overall, putting action and atmosphere above story.

This is not one of those games that will hold your hand throughout, as it’s meant to simulate a gritty postapocalyptic wasteland filled with soulless killers.

According to the reviews, there isn’t much storytelling going on throughout the game; it’s concentrated at the very start and end of the action.

Mad Max is a game about exploration, leveling up, destroying vehicles and killing people. It apparently does the job of immersing the player in the action really rather well, and only occasional graphical inconsistencies ruin the experience.

Overall, Mad Max seems to have delivered on its promise with a great execution. The ideas were all there, the visuals too, but it’s important how all elements come together, and in this case the mix was successful.
