Three-door hatchbacks are getting rarer with each new generation launched. Just take a look at the latest B- and C-segment hatches launched: how many of them offer three-door body styles along the more practical five-door versions? That’s right, very few.

The Renault Megane, Opel Astra and Corsa, Nissan Pulsar, Honda Civic are all offered exclusively in a five-door configuration and the list goes on and on. In the premium segment, the picture appears to be similar, although fans of three-door body styles may be more spoiled for choice.

The current Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series offer three-door versions, but that may be simply because they were developed at a time when this body style still seemed a good idea. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Lexus CT or Volvo V40 only offer five-door versions.

In this context, what are the chances of us seeing a three-door Infiniti Q30? Next to zero, obviously, but Theophilus Chin’s renderings definitely make us regret that.
