Thanks to Ford’s SYNC connected vehicle technology, drivers will be able to easily access their cars using a very clever smartphone app.
The new Ford Escape is the first Ford vehicle worldwide with SYNC Connect, a technology that’s set to debut in the spring of 2016 when it will allow users to unlock doors, check fuel level and even locate where the vehicle is parked.
Remote access to your car via smartphone isn’t a new concept in the automotive industry, though it’s a first for Ford. Despite the new Escape being chosen to debut the tech, other Ford vehicles will follow as the American manufacturer goes about installing built-in modems throughout its range.
SYNC Connect users will also be able to remote start their cars, a function which includes scheduling a future start where for example you can program the car to start at 7:30 AM and wait for you all nice and warm if say you need to leave at 8:00 AM.
The Vehicle status function also displays oil and battery levels, as well as tire pressure readings which is going to come in handy to a lot of people.
Don Butler, Ford Connected Vehicle & Services exec said that the technology “helps you seamlessly integrate your vehicle into your lifestyle. Get locked out? Cold outside? Forget where you parked? No problem. Just use your smartphone.”
In order for a Ford owner to enable SYNC Connect, they need to get processed through a two-step authentication system which protects personal information, confirming the setup on both the vehicle’s touch screen and on the mobile app.
Ultimately, Ford plans to reach another level in connectivity with their future cars, which at one point will include autonomous driving.
The SYNC Connect system comes with complimentary five years of service.
