Stefano Domenicali, former Scuderia Ferrari team manager, could become the next CEO of Lamborghini.

According to Italian publication Gazetta dello Sport, the now Audi-employed “New Business Initiatives” vice president is rumored to become Lamborghini’s next CEO, replacing Stephan Winkelmann in the process – who would be given another assignment within the Volkswagen Group, after a 9 year run at the Italian supercar manufacturer, possibly taking over Audi Quattro.

Although nothing has been formalized yet, if the information turns out to be correct, then Domenicali would be quartered a few miles from where he began his career at Ferrari in 1991. This potential change probably has nothing to do with a possible Formula 1 entry, since the parent company – Volkswagen – has a lot on its plate right now following the “Dieselgate” scandal.

Domenicali replaced Jean Todt in at Ferrari in 2007 as Director of the Ferrari Formula 1 team, but resigned in 2014 after 7 years of mediocre results.
