Peculiar One-Of-A-Kind “Mercedes Royale 600” Spotted In Cali [w/Video]

Coachbuilt automobiles are usually one of the most select niches in the motoring world, often catering luxury and exclusivity to the customers. Even so, every now and then, something goes horribly wrong…

Like this peculiar looking Mercedes Benz, allegedly called the Royale 600, for instance. According to, the car was apparently spotted in California, and originally posted by Galpin Auto Sports on their Facebook page.

The car – which looks neatly put together, by the way – was obviously inspired by Merc’s “fintail” S-Class W111 and W112 generations, proudly carrying a reinterpreted, modern design of the now iconic models.

Sure, the SLS headlights and the SLR-like side air vents don’t do wonders to the vehicle’s overall aspect, but – like it or not – the attention to detail seems amazing. Even the rectangular rear side window frame calls back to the original design, while the chromed front and rear bumpers further emphasize the original’s chromed metal bars that used to be called a “bumpers” back in the day.

Judging by its interior, the car appears to be based on a W222 S600 (hence the Royale 600 name), but that’s about the only giveaway on the entire thing. Otherwise, the vehicle is a totally retro-inspired limousine, sitting on humongous rims that are reminiscent of the hubcaps used by the old model. Still, the back-end doesn’t look too out-of-place with the SLS taillights, though.
