You Can Now Own A 1986 Mercury XR4Ti Pace Car, America’s Version Of The Ford Sierra

For the right amount, that is, because the 1986 Mercury XR4Ti Pace Car (and yes, it’s based on the Euro Ford Sierra) is up in an online auction, in the search of a new owner.

Speaking of the future owner, he or she should know that this is a “rare one-of-a-kind” model, made in 1986 and prepared for the 1987 Detroit Grand Prix. The car was in the original possession of Roush Racing (title signed by Jack Roush), who did all the modifications and upgrades.

These include a full roll cage with racing harness seatbelt, a four-pot overhead cam turbocharged, intercooled, electronic fuel injected engine, capable of sending 180hp (183PS) at 5,500rpm and 225lb-ft (305Nm) at 3,500rpm to the rear wheels via a manual Ford SVO Motorsports transmission, by Borg-Warner.

Stopping power is provided by four-wheel discs with air cooling and the seller talks about the special Koni struts, high rate springs and high rate control arm bushings too.

Whoever buys it will get to enjoy the intact graphics, as the model was kept in a climate controlled environment and is in an excellent overall condition, with 5,885miles (9,471km) indicated by the odometer, although the radio does not work.

The car is located in Appleton, Wisconsin, and at the time of writing, 32 bids raised the price to $12,700.
