MG will enter the highly competitive compact SUV segment in Europe with the new GS.

Originally unveiled last year in Shanghai, the vehicle will be ready, in its final form, for the 2016 London Motor Show, where it premiere on May 6.

With MG’s first SUV, we wanted to design a car that would fit in with the MG family and have a slightly different look, of confidence and dynamism, that sets it apart from other models“, said the MG Global Design Director, Anthony Williams-Kenny.

The sketch released by the SAIC Motor-owned brand shows many similarities to the SUV presented in 2015, with the small grille and V-shaped hood. The headlights seem to get a slender design and the bumper carries a new look.

We don’t know exactly how large the SUV will be, but the Shanghai show version was roughly the same size as a Honda CR-V, at 4,500mm long, 1,855mm wide and 1,675mm tall. In China, the vehicle is equipped with a 217hp 2.0-liter turbo engine, connected to either a manual or a six-speed automatic.

Autocar reports that the model might carry a smaller 1.5-liter engine, similar to the one offered on the MG3, and buyers should be able to choose between FWD or AWD, in Britain and other select markets. A diesel variant, with 1.9 liters in displacement, is believed to be added to the lineup too.

In the UK, the new MG GS SUV will arrive this June.
