Abarth Shows New 595 OT Touring Car Racer

The stylish Italian citycar has gone even more hardcore with the launch of a new version. called Abarth 595 OT.

It’s called the Abarth 595 OT, with the designation standing for “Omologata Turismo”, which roughly translates as “Touring Car Homologated”.

The acronym was used in the past by Karl Abarth on series of race cars and sports coupes to “reassert the bond between race cars and their standard production counterparts“.

So, the new variant is not street legal, but aimed at the track. It features new aerodynamic add-ins and is powered by a 1.4-liter T-Jet engine that produces 190 HP and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. The front and rear tracks have been widened and there is also a “Performance” kit that consists of a racing exhaust and 305 mm floating front brake discs.

The 595 OT complies with the rules of the new Italian Touring Car Championship, where it will race on May 22 at the Monza track. It will also serve as a replacement for the 500 Assetto Corse in the 2016 Abarth Selenia Trophy. The exclusive service for converting the Assetto into the 595 OT is offered at Racing Team workshops.

The 595 OT will make its racing debut at Monza on May 1, where it will join the 695 Assetto Corse Evoluzione, which has been racing for the past 3 seasons. The company has already started taking orders for both the car and the kit.
