Alfa Romeo is not famous for the wagons they make, but this doesn’t mean you don’t want one.

This is a 1981 Alfasud Giardinetta, the three-door estate version of Alfa’s beloved entry-level model.

Alfa Romeo introduced this variant in 1975 and made around 5,700 of them during the model’s lifecycle, and as you can guess, there aren’t many left around, especially ones that are still in running condition.

This car was originally delivered in Austria and went through a partial restoration in 1991, when it was sent to a museum, remaining there as an exhibit until 2015. Then it was imported to Greece, with its current owner giving it a cosmetic and mechanical refresh, including a new timing belt, carburetor rebuild, new exhaust and AR Servizio livery.

Despite the car wearing an older respray, the paint is still in good condition and the body being straight and free of major dents and bumps. The roof is wrapped white and all stickers on the car were reproduced based on period photos. Also period-correct is the tow hook while the wooden-aluminum roof rack is in good condition.

The cabin was refurbished in 2015, with the cloth upholstery looking in a very nice condition as is the wood in the luggage compartment. The zingy 1,350cc flat-four engine has been freshly serviced and inspected while the brakes were overhauled and ball joints and rear shock absorbers also new.

One of the main reasons of the Alfasud’s rarity is, of course…rust, but this example here is described to be in a very good condition, with the chassis showing no signs of rust repair or welding.

Overall it looks like an example that’s received a lot of love in its life and we wouldn’t mind looking cool behind its three-spoke wheel. It may not be Alfa’s finest moment stylistically-speaking,but Alfasuds were always a riot to drive and we definitely dig the uniquness of the three-door estate body.

The car is currently being auctioned over at Bring a Trailer, so get in there.
