After a pitstop blunder cost Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo a win in Monaco last weekend, the team has put preventative measures in place hoping that such a mistake will never happen again.

Team principal Christian Horner said that it was a misunderstanding caused by unusual garage arrangements in Monaco that led to Ricciardo losing valuable time while the crew was scrambling trying to find the tires for his car.

As you may know, the delay resulted in Ricciardo exiting the pits right behind Lewis Hamilton, pretty much cementing his status as runner up on a track where it’s extremely difficult to overtake another competitive car.

“Inevitably there’s been a huge amount of analysis into what happened, why it happened and also into preventative measures to ensure that it doesn’t happen again” said Horner during a recent interview. “It was the culmination of a number of factors that came into play during the race – Max’s stop, an aborted stop, a change of tire compound.”

“All of those things contributed to a scenario where ultimately the tires that were believed to be available were not within the garage, but were in an area that was quite difficult to access and that, of course, led to the tires not being available to Daniel at the point at which he stopped.”

Horner is now hoping Ricciardo can put the incident behind him and focus on Canada where he won back in 2014.

“He’s third in the championship, he’s heading to a venue that holds some fantastic memories for him and hopefully we can again give him a competitive car.”

The 2016 Canadian Grand Prix is set to take place on June 12 in Montreal.
