The new A5 Convertible will become the next addition to Audi’s recently revealed range, set to rival the likes of the Mercedes C-Class Convertible.

Our spies caught the open-top version of the new Audi A5 during some hot weather testing in Spain.

Despite the fact we’ve already seen the hard top A5, Audi followed the protocol and covered the prototype with a camouflage wrap. Don’t expect to see any differences as the only thing that will change on the outside is that fabric soft top.

Audi is known for using really high-quality soft tops in its convertibles and the new topless A5 is expected to continue this tradition. Comfort and quality is very important in the segment, especially now as the competition becomes more fierce than ever.

Expect to see the Coupe’s engine range mirrored which translates into three petrol and three diesel units at the moment, including the new turbocharged 350hp 3.0-litre V6 that debuted in the S5 Coupe.

As ever, the company will offer the option of their Quattro all-wheel drive system with only some of the engine options. The more powerful S5 and A5 TDI V6 models will be the only ones to be offered with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and the rear-axle sport differential, designed to offer a more entertaining drive.

Traditionally the Convertible will weigh a bit more than the Coupe version but the adoption of the latest MLB evo platform should mean that the new Audi A5 Convertible will prove to be lighter than its predecessor.
