Lamborghini Planning To Slot New Model In Between Huracan & Aventador?

Is there room in the world for another Italian supercar? We certainly hope so. And according to the latest, that’s precisely what they have in the works at Lamborghini. What’s more is that it could revive the storied Miura nameplate.

Now we might not ordinarily give much credence to such rumors. After all, they’re busy in Sant’Agata preparing to roll out the new Urus crossover. And the bosses in Ingolstadt and Wolfsburg have other things to worry about at the moment than pouring money into another supercar. But this particular report comes from Georg Kacher, the European correspondent to such publications as Germany’s AutoBild, Britain’s Car, and America’s Automobile magazines. And Kacher has some better sources than most.

The proposed project, says Kacher, could revolve around a hybrid powertrain like the one we saw in the Asterion concept and a 2+2 setup like the kind Lamborghini once employed in the Jarama and Espada. It could be built on the same platform as the new Porsche Panamera (which would make it front-engined) or a similar mid-engined platform to the Huracan and Aventador.

The model would slot between the two, which might seem to slice it pretty thin. At $400k, the Aventador is about double the price of the $200k Huracan, but performance is pretty close between the two. A difference in setup, however, could help carve out the new model’s niche.

This next part is where Automobile loses us, though. The publication projects that the new model could revive the Miura, in both name and styling. That legendary model is, after all, now celebrating its 50th anniversary, and was revived a decade ago for its 40th in the form of a retro concept.

But Lamborghini has been adamant in the ten years since that it had no intention of putting the throwback concept into production. And the company has never revived a dormant nameplate, always choosing a new one as it moves forward. None of that precludes it from doing so now, but we’d be surprised to see that part of the rumors come to fruition. The rest, though, we can only hope will.
