Lewis Hamilton has claimed the lead in the World Driver’s Championship after securing a stunning victory at yesterday’s Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Brit started the race in second position behind his teammate Nico Rosberg. However, Rosberg had a poor start allowing Hamilton to quickly overtake and build up a 1 second lead within the first lap of the race.

While the two Mercedes drivers battled throughout the race, Hamilton never came under serious threat of losing the lead and only relinquished his track position to Rosberg for a single lap when he pitted before his German teammate.

Behind these two however, the racing was much more intense. Red Bull Racing driver Daniel Ricciardo managed to come home with the final place on the podium ahead of his former teammate Sebastian Vettel, followed closely by Max Verstappen and Kim Raikkonen in fifth and sixth respectively.

In the closing third of the race, the best fight of the battle saw Verstappen and Raikkonen trading blows before the two come together on lap 57, leaving the Finn with a damaged front wing. Despite this, Raikkonen remained on Verstappen’s tail until the very end, finishing less than 0.5 seconds behind.

Heading into next week’s German Grand Prix, Hamilton leads Rosberg by 6 points while Ricciardo sits third some 71 points behind.
