A new report claims that a fancy station wagon version of the next-generation Buick Regal wagon is inching closer to production.

The model was announced at the Buick-GMC annual dealer in Austin, Texas, along with the 2018 Enclave, Regal, Regal GS and 2018 GMC Terrain. Moreover, Buick filed trademarks for ‘Tourx’ and ‘Regal Tourx’ with the US Patent and Trademark Office, and it’s believed the vehicle will basically be a rebadged next-gen Opel Insignia Sports Tourer, built on GM’s E2XX platform, borrowed from the latest Chevrolet Malibu.

According to Autoblog, Buick is already in talks with customers and running focus groups for a new car, and even though the model being used wasn’t mentioned, it’s set to compete against the Acura TSX wagon and an unnamed Volvo wagon (it couldn’t be a sports car now, could it?).

When reached out for clarifications, a Buick spokesperson said: “By the end of 2017, we’ll be revealing three more new models for a total of seven new Buicks in just 24 months”, four of which have already been launched (Cascada, Encore, Envision and LaCrosse).

Buick will probably want to expand its SUV/crossover lineup as well, so it isn’t hard to imagine a Regal Wagon with the same attributes as the latest trendy cross-wagons. We’re talking about cars like the E-Class All Terrain and Volvo V90 Cross Country, and that’ where the “Tourx” moniker could come in handy.
