Successful and powerful men sure make enemies, and Elon Musk is no exception. A number of attacks leveled against him might, however, be coming from a person that could be very close to the next POTUS; and that’s troubling.

Of all the people and groups that have spoken against Musk, the Citizens for the Republic (CftR) seem to have a real issue. Originally founded in 1977 by Ronald Reagan, it was then disbanded after his presidency.

It has since been relaunched, describing themselves as “a national organization dedicated to revitalizing the conservative movement” and is now headed by Laura Ingraham, one of the candidates for becoming the next White House Press Secretary under President Donald J Trump.

As Elektrek reports, CftR recently launched a campaign called “Stop Elon From Failing Again”, in which they are accusing him of defrauding US taxpayers of billions of dollars through his companies Tesla and SpaceX.

They are arguing that “Elon Musk has defrauded the American Taxpayer out of over $4.9 Billion in the form of subsidies, grants, and other favors” and certain articles are going as far as comparing him to Enron and Bernie Madoff.

“These are tools used by those who don’t have facts on their side,” said Sarah O’Brien, a spokeswoman for Tesla, referring not just to CftR, but also numerous other attacks, mostly from conservative groups.

So, what did the man himself have to say about all the flak he’s taking? Unsurprisingly, he kept his cool…
