Ford announced that they would be pricing the affordable new Ka+ from just £8,995 in the UK, making this one of the cheapest new cars money can buy.

According to CarBuyer’s James Batchelor however, the Ka+ falls short of being a more practical, cheaper Fiesta, seen as how it’s not as fun to drive.

Same story continues on the inside where the Ka+ again doesn’t match the Fiesta, only this time it falls short in terms of quality. Still, if you keep reminding yourself just how much (or how little) you had to spend in order to get one, you may be able to move past all the cheap plastics.

In terms of performance and on-road dynamics, the Ka+ is obviously not as sporty as the Fiesta either, as according to Batchelor, the latter doesn’t have as much body roll – though their steering feels surprisingly similar. He does say though that the Ka+ is more comfortable on the road than the Fiesta, which lots of potential buyers might want to consider.

The only engine you can get in the Ka+ is a 1.2-liter Duratec unit, available with 70 PS (69 HP) and 85 PS (84 HP). Where the latter will get you from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 13.3 seconds, the entry-level unit can only manage a 15.3 second sprint.

Not exactly what you’d call zippy.
