Alfa Romeo Announces Base 2018 Stelvio With 280HP For The USA

Alfa Romeo will reveal the US-spec versions of the Stelvio at the upcoming New York Auto Show.

The range of Alfa’s new SUV -minus the Quadrofoglio model– will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol with direct injection, making 280hp and 306lb-ft of torque.

The brand’s Q4 all-wheel drive system, which is standard to all US-spec Stelvios, is combined with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with aluminum paddle shifts on the steering column. Alfa Romeo claims a 0-60mph in 5.4 seconds and a top speed of 144mph.

“The 2018 Stelvio lineup marks Alfa Romeo’s venture into the second fastest-growing premium segment and an important next chapter of the brand’s rich 105-year heritage as we continue to grow in North America,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Alfa Romeo.

Alfa Romeo will offer two models, the Stelvio and the Stelvio Ti, with the latter featuring more kit, including 19-inch wheels, heated front seats and steering wheel, front park sensors, genuine wood interior accents and an 8.8-inch widescreen infotainment display. Sport and Lusso packages are offered as options, with the latter being offered exclusive to the Ti models.

“From the new Stelvio and Stelvio Ti models, to the ultra-high-performance Quadrifoglio model, each of our Alfa Romeo SUVs deliver class-leading power and driving dynamics, standard all-wheel drive, next-level technologies and race-inspired performance, plus gorgeous design and breathtaking style that could only be from an SUV born in Italy,” added Bigland.

Yall can jump up and down for these Alfa’s but I won’t. They look like a dated praying mantis imo.

  • Ed Ward

Dodge and its srt clan is doing a better job at fixing alfa than fiat ever could.

    • Six Thousand Times

      That’s actually funny!

      • Ed Ward

Its funny how Italians portray their FIAT trash as great and discredit the very company that’s keeping them in business. Dodge was dismantled and its engineers sent off to italy to rebuild alfa. Ralph Gilles and his entire group are responsible for the revival of fiat.

        • Six Thousand Times

Maybe in your alt universe but not here on Earth.

        • Michelin

Really ??? Now Ferrari wins F1 races for american engineers and Haas lose for Italian engines, chassis and brakes !!! …. american magazine.

    • europeon

You’re so clueless I’m actually amazed you managed to post something on the Internet.

      • Six Thousand Times

To the morons, it was actually Chrysler who rescued FIAT. They also believe that somehow Dodge engineers oversaw the development of Alfa’s Giorgio platform. Stupid people are a treasure but I would love to know how that one got started. This idiot isn’t the only one to post a comment like this.

      • Ed Ward

Fiat purchased alfa from the Italian government in 1986 and had nothing to offer them. No credible rwd architecture, no nothing. All fiat had was trash little fwd cars. By 1996 alfa was dead, by 2006 alfa was history. Then comes chrysler and it’s U.S location, money and of course TECHNOLOGY. now all of a sudden 2016 alfa is alive. after 40 years of Italian trash, chrysler saves Maserati and Alfa with its own money AND technology.

        • europeon

          Wow. Just wow.

          • Six Thousand Times

          • europeon

He’s not the first American that has no clue about what happened, I think it’s because it’s deep ingrained in them that America is the best and everyone else is crap.

          • Six Thousand Times

Well, he did use “Chrysler” and “technology” in the same sentence without any irony so I’ll give him style points for at least sticking to his story.

          • europeon

Believe it or not, when it comes to this, Chrysler (Dodge, AMC, Plymouth) was up there with Alfa Romeo, Ferrari and Lancia. Granted, it was 40 years ago, but you can’t deny that.

          • Six Thousand Times

Closer to 50 or 60 but, yes, I’ll grant you that. 40 years ago would have been 1977.

          • gary4205

Mercedes ALSO wanted Chrysler for it’s engineers!

As cash strapped as the company has been, engineering has always been it’s strong suit.

          • europeon

*Some* engineering, but it’s nowhere near the level of engineering that Fiat has. Anyway, this wasn’t the reason for the merger. Nothing that Chrysler had trickled down to the European arm – with the exception of UConnect and a few switchgear, and you can’t really call that engineering.

        • Alex

Do not be silly. The Chrysler was dead. The entire american auto industry was rescued by the US government. The GM and Ford had to give Volvo, Aston Martin, Saab, Opel, Jaguar and Land Rover

          • gary4205

Ford sold off the brands it stupidly bought, including Mazda. Mainly because of incompatibility with the “One Ford” world vision.

Saab was owned by General Motors, and was a shit car.

GM has JUST sold Opel, which has been a money loser for decades!

  • gary4205

This thing. will be like giving Alfa a license to print money!

The magazine testers have already given this thing rave reviews.

If Alfa is to remain in business, this is the home run that made it possible.
