GMC is showcasing a new Sierra AT4 at the New York Auto Show this week. But the big pickup won’t be the only model to get the off-road treatment.

In fact, Automotive News reports that every model in GMC’s lineup will get an AT4 version within the next two years.

The Sierra AT4 upgrades on the new full-size, light-duty pickup with a host of off-roading goodies. It features a suspension lifted by two inches and fitted with Rancho monotube shocks, and 18-inch wheels with knobby all-terrain tires. It also gets a locking diff, skid plates, recovery hooks, a traction-select system, and of course four-wheel drive. Special badges and trim inside and out further set it apart from more road-focused models.

There’s no telling at this point which of these features may make it onto other models. But the AT4 spec is slated to replace the All-Terrain trim across the lineup.

“The AT4 is far more than just an appearance package,” said GMC vice president Duncan Aldred. “The 2019 Sierra AT4 is the most premium, off-road capable Sierra ever. It’s designed for customers who want a bold presence on the road and the capability to venture off life’s beaten path – capitalizing on GMC’s unique combination of bold design and precise craftsmanship, the AT4 moves GMC into the currently un-conquered space of premium, off-road capable vehicles.”

With the expansion of the trim to models like Canyon, Terrain, Acadia, and Yukon, the AT4 designation will emerge as a more rugged counterpart to the luxury-oriented Denali sub-brand. It ought to help GM fill the void left by the closing of the Hummer brand, and attract customers from rivals like Jeep.
