We’re getting out best look at the 2019 Audi SQ2 as spy photographers have managed to capture a prototype up close.

Set to debut this fall, the high-performance crossover has a familiar design but it features a sporty front bumper with large air intakes and silver surrounds. The section beneath the grille also has a series of vents which will likely improve cooling.

The rest of the design largely carries over but a closer inspection reveals five-spoke alloy wheels and an upgraded braking system with S-branded calipers. The model also has a monotone appearance with contrasting silver accents on the C-pillar.

The rear of the crossover sees some subtle revisions as the bumper has been modified to accommodate a four-tailpipe exhaust system. While the cut outs look pretty crude, this is just temporary and the production model will have higher fit and finish.

The interior echoes the standard model and features a leather-wrapped steering wheel and two-tone seats with contrasting red stitching. The two-tone design is visible elsewhere as there is red trim on the dashboard, doors and center console. The pictures also give us a pretty good look at the instrument cluster and they show a redline of around 6,100 rpm and a speedometer which tops out at 280 km/h (174 mph).

While the speedometer goes that high, there’s little chance the crossover will actually be able to go that fast. However, the SQ2 won’t be a slouch as the model is expected to feature the same turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the S3. In the S3 Sportback, the engine produces 310 PS (228 kW / 305 hp) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. It enables the model to accelerate from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 4.6 seconds before hitting a limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Interestingly, the SQ2 was surrounded by Skoda prototypes and our spy shooter believes the company could be using the model to evaluate a potential high-performance Karoq.
