Ford Territory Crossing The Pacific From China To South America In 2020

Following its introduction in China last year, the Ford Territory is starting to show global ambitions as the automaker has confirmed it will arrive in Brazil and Argentina in 2020.

The crossover was first shown at the Sao Paulo Motor Show last year to test the waters for an introduction in Brazil and it looks like the signals from the public and the dealer network were positive. As a result, it will be launched next year.

The thing is, the Territory is not really a Ford, as it started life as the Yusheng 330, an SUV developed by the Blue Oval’s Chinese joint venture partner Jiangling. Dearborn did nothing more than apply its badges, brand-specific grille, and new bumpers – and that’s all.

For now, the company isn’t too generous with details regarding the South American version of the Territory, but says more information on the engine, versions and price will be offered closer to launch. In China, it is powered by a 140 HP. 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to either a six-speed manual or sa ix-speed automatic transmission.

A mild hybrid version equipped with a 48-volt starter/generator is also available in the People’s Republic, but there’s no AWD option, as the Territory is only available with front-wheel-drive. Recently, an all-electric variant was also launched, but it’s unclear whether or not the Territory EV will make it to price-conscious South America.

All Ford was willing to disclose about the Latin version of its crossover is that it offers a generous connectivity and safety package. Available features include wireless smartphone charging, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, FordPass Connect embedded modem, as well as safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, parking assist and a 360-degree camera system.

their best looking car excluding the expedition isn’t even designed by them… also the interior looks like a Peugeot

They should have Jiangling design all their products. This is better than anything MI has designed.

Its really nothing special. And the side profile is just a copy of the Evoque.

I honestly wish ford would bring the ev version here. It could sell pretty well. Despite the interior looking very audi like, it still has the nicest interior of any ford suv (exluding Lincoln products) right now.

The harmonization cost of bring this vehicle, designed for the Chinese market, to the US is likely cost prohibitive. Especially when the import tariffs are applied.

Unfortunately we have to wait for Ford’s 3 EV projects to come online in over the next few years.

“Dearborn did nothing more than apply its badges, brand-specific grille, and new bumpers – and that’s all.”

Not actually true. If you look at the original S330, the Territory has also got a mostly new interior, better materials, newer Ford tech, etc., which goes some way to justifying its higher price as a Ford that it was as a JMC Yusheng.

The fun thing is that this is actually a re-skinned Landwind Evoque clone, the rear 3/4 view is still a pretty good give away, so probably still related to the older Ford CD3 (? Mondeo, LR2, Volvo XC70) platform, finally returning to Ford after many stops between,
