Following its introduction in China last year, the Ford Territory is starting to show global ambitions as the automaker has confirmed it will arrive in Brazil and Argentina in 2020.
The crossover was first shown at the Sao Paulo Motor Show last year to test the waters for an introduction in Brazil and it looks like the signals from the public and the dealer network were positive. As a result, it will be launched next year.
The thing is, the Territory is not really a Ford, as it started life as the Yusheng 330, an SUV developed by the Blue Oval’s Chinese joint venture partner Jiangling. Dearborn did nothing more than apply its badges, brand-specific grille, and new bumpers – and that’s all.

For now, the company isn’t too generous with details regarding the South American version of the Territory, but says more information on the engine, versions and price will be offered closer to launch. In China, it is powered by a 140 HP. 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine mated to either a six-speed manual or sa ix-speed automatic transmission.
A mild hybrid version equipped with a 48-volt starter/generator is also available in the People’s Republic, but there’s no AWD option, as the Territory is only available with front-wheel-drive. Recently, an all-electric variant was also launched, but it’s unclear whether or not the Territory EV will make it to price-conscious South America.
All Ford was willing to disclose about the Latin version of its crossover is that it offers a generous connectivity and safety package. Available features include wireless smartphone charging, a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, FordPass Connect embedded modem, as well as safety systems such as adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning, parking assist and a 360-degree camera system.
