Mercedes launched its 190E Evolution model back in 1989, giving it a custom rear spoiler, wider wheel arches, improved brakes and suspension and a tuned engine, among many other mods.

The Evolution II quickly followed a year later, but with a more radical body kit, featuring a much larger rear wing. While its production run was short, the 190E Evo II was an instant hit and went on to become one of Germany’s most iconic four-door sports sedans.

With that in mind, J.B. Cars took the design of the original Evo II and decided to give it a refresh using a few modern AMG parts such as the diffuser, quad-exhaust pipes, wheels, mirrors and even different door handles.

The overall design of the car appears a little sharper, thanks in part to the cleaner trunk lid (missing its 190 E and 2.5 – 16 inscriptions), but also because the taillights now feature a slightly simpler look, with modern graphics that wrap around the units in a sort of C-shape.

Then there’s the C-pillar which is thinner, and while we can’t see the car from the front, the headlights and front spoiler appear to be different as well.

We’re confident in saying that the designer did not butcher the 190E Evolution II in any way. The styling language is the same, the proportions haven’t changed, and it’s still very imposing.
