If you needed further proof that the market for one-off Pagani Zonda models is booming, here it is. Over the weekend, at RM Sotheby’s Abu Dhabi auction, the bespoke Pagani Zonda Aether sold for a staggering $6,812,500.
Just last weekend, another unique Zonda, the Riviera, fetched $5.5 million in what was the first public auction of a Zonda for some seven years. Prior to RM Sotheby’s auction this weekend, the Pagani Zonda Aether was expected to sell for between $4.5 million and $5.5 million.
Modern Collector’s Car: One-Off Pagani Zonda Aether Is The First Zonda Auctioned In Seven Years
Much like the Riviera, the Zonda Aether is completed in ‘760’-specification like many other bespoke Zonda models ordered in recent years. Consequently, it features a naturally-aspirated 7.3-liter V12 pumping out a cool 749 hp. Unlike most other Zondas, however, the Aether pairs this screaming engine with a six-speed manual transmission, making it even rarer and perhaps playing a part in the reason why it sold for so much. Additionally, the Aether is a droptop.
Visually, the Zonda Aether is bathed in an exposed carbon fiber body complete with bright red accents. There’s also a Zonda Cinque-inspired roof scoop stretching up from the engine bay, a towering rear wing, eye-catching rear diffuser, and triangular air intakes on the rear haunches. Inside, the car features the same seats as the Zonda HP Barchetta and Huayra BC as well as leather pull straps as opposed to door handles, an LED rev counter, and a gear selection read-out.
It is reported that the Aether was commissioned by the same collector who owns the one-off Ferrari SP38. Its sales price, as well as that of the Riviera, provides an indication of just how valuable the dozens of other Zonda 760-spec models are.
