Fiat Chrysler Automobiles pulls out all the stops when it comes to Super Bowl ads and it appears that tradition will continue.

Yesterday, the company confirmed Jeep will show a sixty second spot during the big game. However, unlike most other automakers, they didn’t tease the ad or say anything about it.

Instead, they were so secretive that they warned “viewers will have to watch closely to see the commercial. The timing/when the spot will air within the telecast will not be announced beforehand.”

That’s interesting by itself, but it appears the Northwest Herald has the scoop. According to the publication, the ad will see Bill Murray revive his Phil Connors character from Groundhog Day. That’s pretty fitting as this year’s Super Bowl also takes place on Groundhog Day.

While Jeep was trying to keep the commercial under wraps, people spotted Murray filming scenes for the ad and Gregg Hanson told the paper it’s almost an “exact recreation” of the movie. Of course, there will be some minor changes as the Chevy pickup truck that Murray steals, and drives off a cliff, has apparently been replaced by a Jeep Gladiator.

Murray isn’t the only one reviving his character from Groundhog Day as the publication says Brian Doyle-Murray will return to play Mayor Buster Green. He’ll be joined by Stephen Tobolowsky who played annoying insurance agent Ned Ryerson.

FCA wouldn’t confirm the news, but this wouldn’t be the first time that Jeep has tapped into nostalgia. Back in 2018, the company had Jeff Goldblum relive his Jurassic Park escape in a new Wrangler.
