The Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system has been limited to the CT6, but it will spread to more models this year including the 2021 Cadillac CT4, CT5 and Escalade.

That’s just the tip of the iceberg as GM will add Super Cruise to seven additional models in 2021. The company didn’t say what vehicles will get the system, but GM President Mark Reuss confirmed they will include vehicles from brands other than Cadillac. An additional 12 models will be added over the course of 2022 and 2023.

While the company was tight-lipped on specifics, they confirmed Super Cruise will be added to full-size pickups and SUVs. As a result, it should be offered on the facelifted Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra as well as the recently introduced Chevrolet Tahoe / Suburban and GMC Yukon / Yukon XL.

Besides announcing the expanded availability, GM noted customers who own vehicles with Super Cruise use it approximately 50% of the timing they’re traveling on a compatible highway. More importantly, customers are happy with Super Cruise and 85% of CT6 owners said they would “prefer” or “only consider” another vehicle equipped with the system in the future.

As we reported last month, Super Cruise is available for use on over 200,000 miles (321,868 km) on highways in the United States and Canada. An enhanced version will be introduced later this year and feature a new automated lane change function.

When the self-driving tech is activated, users simply need to tap the turn signal to indicate that they want to change lanes. When an appropriate opening has been found, the vehicle will automatically switch lanes.

Besides the new lane change function, the system is more intuitive and features upgraded software for “better steering and speed control.” Users can also expect “richer map information” which helps to improve the system’s effectiveness.
