Fiat is about to expand the 500e family with the addition of the closed-top hatchback, which was already spied on the road not long ago, hiding the few changes it has over the faux-convertible underneath a lot of camouflage.

Peel the synthetic skin off and you will find the same styling as the 500e Convertible – after all, it is the same car. The only differences are the addition of a rear wing and an antenna that rests on the fixed roof.

With the addition of the new body style, the company’s zero-emission city car will become a tad more affordable. The pricing is unknown at this point, but it will be way cheaper than the loaded 500 La Prima limited edition, which comes in 500 units and starts at €37,900 ($40,515) in Italy.

Aside from the financial part, the range, acceleration and top speed are the big unknowns, as everything else will be identical. This includes the electric motor that puts down 116 horsepower and the 42 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. The 500e Convertible has a 320-kilometer (199-mile) driving range on the WLTP cycle, does the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 9 seconds and has a top speed electronically limited to 150 km/h (93 mph).

Look for the same styling inside and out, as well as all the gear, such as the Level 2 semi-autonomous driving system that will make the daily commute more pleasant and new UConnect 5 infotainment system with a 10.25-inch touchscreen display. Smartphone integration, navigation system, premium materials and so on will be part of the offering, either standard or optional, depending on the trim level.

The Italian car brand, which is part of the FCA Group, is believed to present the 500e Hatch (unofficial name) in a few months. At this point, the company has not revealed any plans to offer either 500e in the States, but a final decision might come by next year.
