Dongfeng Motors has announced a new electric vehicle brand at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show dubbed Voyah. The brand will focus on electric vehicles and has unveiled a striking concept named the i-Free.

The Voyah i-Free takes the shape of a large SUV and has a complex design. This is particularly apparent at the front end, where it sports a pair of faux air intakes with a diamond-shaped pattern. What’s more, the concept lacks a grille of any kind and instead has a pair of gaping holes where the grille would be. These holes flow through to the hood and have the same diamond pattern as the air intakes.

The front of the i-Free concept also sports some stylish gold accents, including its large logo and a piece of trim connecting the small LED headlights. Elsewhere, Dongfeng’s latest creation has cameras in place of traditional wing mirrors, door handles that sit flush with the bodywork, and a set of massive silver wheels. Ensuring the rear-end stands out is a large spoiler stretching off from the roof and a pair of thin taillights.

It is understood that the i-Free concept is based on Dongfeng’s Electric Smart Secure Architecture (ESSA) and features an all-electric powertrain. For now, though, technical specifications about it remain under wraps.

A production version of the concept is scheduled to hit the Chinese market in 2022 and will be built at a former Dongfeng-Renault plant. However, as is common practice with boldly styled concepts, we expect it to undergo a host of styling modifications on the way to the production line.
