Shortly after announcing pricing details for the 2022 VW Taos, the German car manufacturer has also published official fuel economy ratings for the compact SUV.

All Taos models equipped with front-wheel drive and the standard eight-speed automatic transmission have an EPA-estimated range of 28 mpg city, 36 mpg highway, and 31 mpg combined. Those Taos models optioned with the available 4Motion all-wheel drive system and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission have EPA-estimated ratings of 25 mpg city, 32 mpg highway, and 28 mpg combined.

“We developed the Taos for North America with a balance of efficiency and drivability that we’ve rarely seen from competitors in the compact SUV space,” senior vice president of product and strategy for Volkswagen of America Hein Schafer said. “We think customers will embrace a fun-to-drive, well-equipped SUV at a very competitive price point.”

Regardless of whether customers opt for front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, all 2022 VW Taos models come outfitted with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 158 hp and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque.

The Taos is positioned under the Tiguan in the U.S. and starts at $22,995 in entry-level S guise, excluding a $1,195 destination charge. Prices jump to $27,245 for the SE with front-wheel drive and $28,695 for the SE with all-wheel drive. Topping out the range is the 2022 Taos SEL starting at $31,490 with front-wheel drive and $33,045 with all-wheel drive.

The 2022 Volkswagen Taos will start to land at dealerships across the United States in June.
