GM is going electric and the company has announced a “holistic charging approach” known as Ultium Charge 360.

Designed to offer EV owners a more convenient charging experience, Ultium Charge 360 unites various charging initiatives under one roof.

In particular, the company is working with a number of third parties to improve access to chargers. As part of this effort, GM has signed agreements with Blink Charging, ChargePoint, EV Connect, EVgo, FLO, Greenlots and SemaConnect. Thanks to these partnerships, EV owners will be able to use their vehicle app to see real-time information from nearly 60,000 EV chargers, find stations along their route as well as initiate and pay for charging from their smartphone.

Speaking of charging, GM and EVgo have opened their first joint charging stations in California, Florida and Washington. Each station is capable of delivering up to 350 kW and has an average of four chargers on site.

More are coming as the two companies are on track to open 500 fast charging stalls by the end of 2021. They’re part of GM’s effort to add more than 2,700 fast chargers, in cities and suburbs, by the end of 2025.

Ultium Charge 360 will also see GM improve their smartphone apps to provide an “even more intuitive mobile experience that makes navigating to a charging station, plugging into a charger and paying for charging simple.” The effort will also see GM offer an assortment of charging accessories and installation services.

The latter promises to build on GM’s collaboration with Qmerit, which will provide free installation of Level 2 charging capability in the homes of customers who purchase or lease a 2022 Bolt or Bolt EUV. While only basic installations are covered, the offer eliminates one of the key hassles of EV ownership and saves buyers money.
