Jeep has announced a recall for the 2021 Grand Cherokee L due to an issue related to the reversing camera.

An investigation from the car manufacturer has revealed that radio software can malfunction during shutdown and prevent an image from the reversing camera from displaying. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards require that the rearview image is displayed whenever a vehicle is put into reverse, regardless of any modifications to the field of view that the driver has previously selected.

The recall impacts 56,180 Grand Cherokee L models that have been produced between December 3, 2020 and September 13, 2021, the date when updated software was implemented on the production line to fix the issue.

Jeep will begin to notify both dealerships and owners of affected vehicles on November 10, 2021 and will update the radio software to resolve the issue. The automaker will also reimburse any owners who have incurred the cost of repairing the problem.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee L was unveiled in early January and only started to reach the hands of customers a few months ago.

This recall isn’t the only issue that Jeep has had to face with the new SUV. Earlier this month, it was revealed that the semiconductor shortage had prompted Jeep to stop offering the Grand Cherokee L with its Quadra-Lift air suspension with electronic adaptive damping.
