The Polaris Slingshot has been around for years, but it’s getting a handful of interesting upgrades for 2022.

The big news is the return of the SLR trim, which slots between the mid-level SL and range-topping R. The model starts at $28,899 and features a two-tone exterior that mixes gloss and matte paint with colorful graphics. Buyers will also find lower accent lighting and “premium aluminum wheels” with a wider rear tire than those found on lesser variants.

The cabin largely carries over from the SL, but the SLR features a Sport Interior package just like the R. The model also comes with a Rockford Fosgate audio system and a familiar 7-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth connectivity.

More importantly, the SLR is equipped with the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine as the range-topping R model. It produces 203 hp (151 kW / 206 PS) and 144 lb-ft (195 Nm) of torque, which is a significant upgrade over the S and SL that have an output of 178 hp (133 kW / 180 PS) and 120 lb-ft (163 Nm). The engine is paired to a five-speed manual, but a five-speed automated manual is also available for an additional $1,750.

Speaking of the Slingshot R, it receives a handful of upgrades for 2022. The most noticeable is a new ventilated hood, which features a ram air-style intake. It emphasizes the model’s aggressiveness, while also “improving aerodynamics and cockpit airflow.” However, you don’t have to upgrade to the range-topping model to get it as the hood will also be offered as an accessory for all 2020-2022 models.

Besides the new hood, the R now comes equipped with four-piston Brembo front brakes that promise to offer “unrivaled stopping power.” They feature red or orange calipers as well as rotors that are 14% larger than those found on lesser variants. That being said, the Brembo brakes will be offered as an upgrade on other trims.

On the topic of styling changes, the 2022 Slingshot can be equipped with an all-new Excursion Top for $1,799.99. It features a removable soft top as opposed to the Slingshade’s fiberglass roof with T-tops.

Moving on, there are four “thoughtfully curated accessory collections that dramatically enhance the Slingshot experience for the driver’s personal preference and driving style.” The first is known as the Drive Series, and it includes the aforementioned ventilated hood and Excursion Top. They’re joined by a ripper ventilated wind deflector, heated/ventilated seats, and a Stage 1 Prostar Tune that adds 25 hp (19 kW / 25 PS).

The Escape Series goes in a slightly different direction but retains the Excursion Top and heated/ventilated seats. However, this version is focused on storage and comes equipped with an all-new roll hoop storage bag as well as a center console bag, dashboard bags, and driver/passenger bags.

The Show Series brings a party-like atmosphere to the model via a Rockford Fosgate roll hoop audio kit and an XKGlow interior lighting system. Owners can use the Slingshot LED app to select which colors they want to be displayed or set the lights to be choreographed to music.

Lastly, there’s the Design Series, which features a ventilated hood, the Slingshade roof, and “countless color-matched parts.” They’re joined by blacked-out badging and a wind deflector.

Pricing for the 2022 Polaris Slingshot begins at $19,999 and climbs to $32,499 for the R variant. The entry-level model holds the line on pricing, while the R is $1,200 more than last year. The SL, on the other hand, climbs $1,000 to begin at $25,999.
