Customers who ordered vehicles that Tesla no longer produces are getting a nasty surprise when they attempt to re-order a new vehicle that is currently in production, as Tesla fails to honor pricing for features whose prices have since risen.

One customer, who ordered a Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive variant before it went out of production, sent an email exchange they had with the automaker to Teslarati. Since the model is no longer manufactured, the communication asks the customer, who opted to remain anonymous, to update their order.

Although the customer begrudgingly agreed to pay a higher price to get a different Model Y variant, they asked if Tesla would offer them the FSD feature at the price agreed to when they first ordered their vehicle in 2019.

“I tried to update the design, but the price jumped $20,000! And full-self-driving is now $10K, when I first reserved it, it was less than half that price. Can TESLA honor my original price for FSD since I’m an early adopter?” the reservation holder asked in an exchange seen by Teslarati.

The company declined, though, saying that it “will not be honoring any previous pricing.” That decision comes despite the customer being asked to reconfigure their vehicle through no fault of their own.

Earlier this year, Elon Musk said that “product complexity” was behind the discontinuation of the Model Y Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive model. Despite that, a number of customers ordered the model before Tesla axed it.

The move will no doubt be doubly distressing for these customers since Tesla prices have risen steadily over the last year. In April and May, the price of the Model Y Long Range AWD rose by almost $1,000, leaving these customers at another disadvantage compared to those who ordered other models in 2019.
